4 bus drivers from Southern Vectis have successfully completed the demanding Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge in under 15 hours, raising money for Isle of Wight-based charity The Veteran Hotel.
Marcin Lakomski, Natalie Woods, Dave Squirrell and Jamie Butler began their epic adventure on Saturday (17th May), starting at the summit of Mount Snowdon at 05:19. The team then climbed Cadair Idris via the challenging South Face Ascent before finishing at Pen y Fan at 20:10, using the infamous Fan Dance route used by UK special forces.
In total, the team tackled 3 of Wales’ toughest peaks and covered over 130 miles of driving between them, completing the full challenge in just 14 hours and 51 minutes. The extreme weather and terrain added to the test of stamina and teamwork, but the drivers pushed through to raise funds for The Veteran Hotel in Ryde.
The charity supports ex-servicemen and women who fell on difficult times, offering housing and respite services. The cause is close to the hearts of the team, after one of their colleagues – a former serviceman – was helped by The Veteran in a time of crisis.
All costs for the challenge were self-funded, with a qualified mountain leader guiding the group to ensure maximum proceeds go to the charity. Donations are being matched 100% by Go South Coast, doubling the impact of every contribution.
