Emergency services have been called to a 2-car road traffic collision in Newport this evening (Friday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has mobilised 2 appliances from Newport Fire Station and a duty officer to the incident, which has occurred on Lugley Street at the junction with Mill Street.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also been dispatched, alongside an operational commander, and are currently assessing the occupants of the vehicles involved.
Both Lugley Street and Mill Street have been closed to traffic by Police whilst emergency services deal with the incident on this wet Friday evening.
Firefighters are working to extricate at least 1 person from a blue Ford Fiesta.
UPDATE @ 19:50 – 1 male has been extricated by firefighters, by means of a door removal, and is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Fire crews are now seeing to the 2 damaged vehicles – the other being a Mitsubishi – and are making the scene safe.
No one is thought to have been seriously injured.
UPDATE @ 20:30 – The road remains closed but recovery of both vehicles has been arranged.
Lugley Street and Mill Street will re-open shortly.
Let’s hope anyone innocent is ok. Too many drive now with drugs or alcohol, or just too fast.
As this council decide to ruin the Island ever more by over building, roads will become ever more dangerous with the amount and the above issues to contend with here.
They are taking away our quality of life

The ‘sort’ that have large families are going to be filling the large housing developments in Ryde soon. So, this is the quite times on our roads, just wait, watch and remember how it was in a decade or so.

The island cannot cope with the number of people, cars and houses being crammed onto it. all roads are jammed, too many cars, no speed controls, nobody thinks of safety, the roads are in a disgusting condition, health services cannot cope either with the number of people here, all the services arebeing overloaded
Another politicised rant over a minor RTA at a notorious junction for ……….RTA’s. The visibility was poor last night thats all. It wouldn’t have made a jot of difference who was in government at the time, or how many people were in their new housing estate houses – it was a simple accident. These continuous political rants on totally inappropriate subjects are so predictable and tedious. No I don’t support housing estates or this administration, but there is a time and a place…..
The time, and place is NOW, and warning the people BEFORE it happens, not whinging after the event.

Isn’t this the exact same junction where an ambulance hit a car back in August? Seems a bit of a coincidence to have two incidents at the same place in such a short space of time. I think the local highway authority needs to check this junction for safety.

Absolutely crazy driving on the pavement like that, (if the photo is anything to go by). They probably could have avoided each other if they had been on the road!
