A hand-painted mural could be installed on the front of a Freshwater antiques shop.
Luke Stagg has put forward a proposal to paint Odds & Sods on Afton Road with a ‘seaside and vintage theme’.
Opened in December last year, the business’s stock includes second-hand furniture, vintage treasures and retro finds.
Mr Stagg’s application form says:
“With the permission of our landlord, we propose to install a hand-painted mural on the front elevation of our business, Odds & Sods, located in Freshwater.
“The mural will depict a seaside and vintage theme, reflecting the nature of the business (antiques, retro and house clearance) and the coastal setting of the Isle of Wight.
“The artwork will include visual elements such as antique furniture, vintage objects, and local maritime imagery (e.g. a lighthouse or sailing boat).
“It will be painted using weather-resistant masonry paints directly onto the existing rendered wall.”
Afton Road resident Danny Arthur supports the bid:
“I think the proposed mural is a fantastic idea, supporting the coastal image of the town, brightening and updating an otherwise fairly drab and dated building.
“I think support must be shown for anyone trying to create a new business and trying to support and fit in the local environment.”
The council’s public consultation on application 25/01024/ADV ends on 22nd August and a decision is due on 15th September.

Great idea make sure you get a good artist
This is a brilliant antiques shop. My family & I can’t resist the quirky bits & pieces on offer. As a ‘coastal town’ the mural would be ‘in keeping.’ Don’t like the ‘odds & sods’ though, it would spoil what is otherwise a wonderful mural.
What a fabulous mural!
Oh what a fabulous idea, it will definitely brighten up the place a bit… it’s all very “ dull and drab” looking… the whole area could use a good freshen up, make it more attractive for locals and tourist alike… give it a sense of prosperity… somewhere where we are all proud to be and take pride in the area…
Dont get me wrong I love living here but like everything things get old and tired…!! Me included lol
I also think the artwork will be a welcome addition. I’m not sure why people have to ask public permission to do things like this especially when too many stuffy
biddies oppose it. Why? Just because they can….
