A student turned teacher who studied at Ryde School has been jailed for a total of 9 months after reportedly taking the virginity of one of his pupils at a £29,000-a-year mainland school.
24-year-old Edward Moore, a choirmaster at King Edward’s School in Witley, Surrey, has been jailed this week after admitting two counts of abusing a position of trust and sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 years.
Moore developed a close relationship with the 16-year-old pupil but their friendship blossomed into a sexual relationship over the summer of 2013. Guilford Crown Court heard on Friday how the pair traveled together to the Isle of Wight on trips away.
The victim, who remains unnamed for legal reasons, lost contact with Moore and later rang the charity Childline after feeling suicidal. She confessed about situation with Moore to a school chaplain, who was obliged to tell the school.
Despite Moore’s early admission of guilt and previous ‘exemplary’ character, in sentencing Judge Moss said it was ‘impossible’ to avoid imposing an immediate custodial sentence.
Moore has been jailed for 9 months, will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be barred from working with children.
