Red Funnel has suspended its vehicle ferry service tonight (Wednesday) due to foggy conditions on the Solent.
Visibility restrictions imposed by Cowes Harbour Commission mean that Red Funnel’s ferries cannot currently enter or leave the Harbour at the mouth of the River Medina.
The fog has led to the decision to suspend the East Cowes-Southampton service in its entirety until further notice.
There is anger tonight as Red Osprey departed Southampton at 21:00, but just minutes before arriving at the East Cowes terminal, the captain announced that the boat would be returning to Southampton.
Those on board have been left furious as they could clearly see Cowes promenade and were within touching distance of getting home – but now face a potential delay of several hours, if not all night.
Red Funnel apologise for the inconvenience.
UPDATE – Services have now resumed allowing to improving conditions.
At least a genuine reason to suspend the
Ferries, rather than the usual feeble excuses.
