Foggy conditions on the Solent have forced Red Funnel to suspend its East Cowes-Southampton vehicle ferry service this morning (Monday).
As the new week gets underway, all Red Funnel ferry sailings to and from the Isle of Wight have been cancelled due to restrictions imposed by Cowes Harbour Commission.
When visibility falls below a minimum amount, Red Funnel’s captains are not permitted to enter or manoeuvre in Cowes Harbour. This is as a result of collisions in the fog in years gone by.
Earlier this morning Red Funnel advised of delays to the 04:30 sailing from East Cowes and the 05:15 from Southampton, but has now confirmed a suspension of service until further notice.
It is unclear when operations will resume. Customers should expect delays throughout the day.
Red Funnel’s website advises of no delays or cancellations as of 05:40.
UPDATE @ 05:53 – With an improving picture as first light approaches, Red Funnel is now advising of 20 minute delay to its 06:00 sailing from Southampton.
UPDATE @ 07:51 – Red Funnel says the vehicle ferry service has been suspended once again.
UPDATE @ 09:41 – The vehicle ferry service has now resumed.
