Coastal areas in Cowes and East Cowes, and tidal areas of Newport, are now said to be at risk of flooding with the Environment Agency issuing a flood warning overnight.
Those living in Cowes, East Cowes and Newport are being urged to take action to protect life and property, activating any property flood protection products you may have.
It’s the first time this week that a flood warning has been issued for communities on the banks of the River Medina. It comes following continued rainfall overnight and in line with some of the highest tides of the year over the next 24-48 hours.
Islanders are being advised to avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water, whilst paying attention to local weather and river conditions.
A flood warning remains in place for the Eastern Yar between Whitwell and Bembridge, as does a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast.

Living in Ryde I would say Ryde is still pretty bloody miserable this morning… Lots of surfcecwtercaroundvSt John’s, Upton/Bettesworth Road running down to flood plains they want to build on!!! “Another Stella choice of development… Homes on stilts perhaps looking t Rosemary’s Vineyard..house built there would be well and truly in the mire!.
Still they will be built and people complain when there under water in a few years time..
Not to worry Island Roads will clear up the mess when it all blows over
Lol
When are the council going to open their eyes and finally realise that the continued development of low lying land cannot continue. No one disputes the fact that a certain amount of new housing is required but surely it is better to look at the demolition and redevelopment of existing delelict properties. It’s good to cater for the needs of those ‘from out of town’ but not at the expense of islanders who live here all year round. Council, planning officers should sit up and smell the roses before they wilt and die.
Buses suspended from cowes to Newport. I’ve family stuck in cowes and having to stay there overnight as there’s no way of getting back to ventnor! I believe dual is flooded.
This is not a new phenomena, it’s been happening for many years going back to 1890.
