A flood alert has been issued for the Lukely Brook river, sitting alongside an alert for the Eastern Yar, as forecasters say another 10mm of rainfall is expected overnight. The Environment Agency says that in the last 6 hours, some 18mm of rain has fallen at Carisbrooke. IW Met Service is expecting a further 10mm overnight into Monday morning. It’s said that the Lukely Brook is near to bankfull, with out of bank flooding possible around Vicarage Walk from 23:00 tonight. A flood warning – a more serious level of alert which would indicate property flooding at Old Westminster Lane and Foxes Road – may be issued before midnight. Meanwhile, a flood alert remains in place for the Eastern Yar. Water levels between Whitwell and Bembridge are falling slowly, but ponding of water on low lying land throughout the river valley, affecting roads, footpaths and cycle paths, is likely to be ongoing. Motorists are urged to avoid walking or driving through flood water.
