A flood alert issued by the Environment Agency remains in force for the Eastern Yar today (Wednesday).
Water levels on the Eastern Yar remain high but are slowly falling at Alverstone. That said, the river is expected to continue to rise at Sandown – possibly by as much as 5cm – until lunchtime today.
Motorists are being warned that flooding to Golf Links Road and Morton Common will occur and there is a risk of property flooding with more heavy rain forecast for the Isle of Wight.
Locals are being told to expect the river to be much higher than normal until Christmas Day.
Environment Agency officers are lowering Bembridge sluice and are encouraging residents along the Eastern Yar to take action to ensure you can protect property if required.
