The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar and its tributaries following heavy rain over the past few days, particularly overnight into Monday.
Some 10mm of rain has fallen at Knighton in the past 8 hours, which comes on top of 19mm of rainfall over the weekend.
With further heavy rainfall expected throughout today, the decision has been taken to issue a flood alert – stretching from Bembridge to Whitwell.
Water levels are expected to be close to the top of the river bank at Alverstone this morning but property flooding is not expected. That said, pumps used to reduce water in gardens will need to operate.
There could be flooding at Golf Links Road and Morton Common in Sandown and ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain away.
More rain is anticipated on Tuesday and Wednesday as we head towards Christmas Day.
