UPDATED: The Cowes Floating Bridge service has been suspended this evening (Wednesday) after running aground on the East Cowes side of the River Medina.
A falling tide led to the grounding of the aging chain ferry at around 17:00.
Motorists are now having to travel through Newport to get to each side of the river, although a passenger launch is in operation for foot passengers and cyclists.
The service is expected to resume later this evening once the tide has turned.
UPDATE @ 20:05 – The Cowes a Floating Bridge has now resumed a normal service.
