An issue with the hydraulic system has once again forced the suspension of the Cowes Floating Bridge service.
The East Cowes to Cowes chain ferry is currently suspended due to the technical issue, which the Isle of Wight Council says should take 2 hours to fix.
It is hoped that the floating bridge will be back on by midday – but there are no guarantees.
The usual foot passenger launch service is operating across the River Medina in the meantime.
The Isle of Wight Council apologises for any inconvenience.
UPDATE @ 15:40 – The service has now resumed.
Have a word with Blue Peter. I’m sure they could come up with a more reliable hydraulic system using fairy liquid containers and sticky back plastic.

I thought that this wasn’t supposed to happen any more once we got rid of the old Council.
At least give them a chance, we all know it ain’t fit for purpose, and so do they!
Paid staff could spend the down time washing down the paintwork a bit – a dirty boat reflects how much care and attention is lavished on it. Not a lot, it seems.

So IWC are so good with figures there 2hrs is 5hrs plus,so next time I park and pay for 30mins I can stay for at least 90mins ?. Maybe I don’t have to pay £2700 council tax,it’s only £1350 !
Trouble is when you are on the island you do not get the same quality of engineers as on the mainland.

We are a seaside island with Cowes included. Silly comment. Many professional marine engineers here. Probably a cheap mainland alternative being used same as Wight fibres pavement bodge job
while maintenance is key to keeping something running without major problems, seems like a lack of maintenance has the opposite effect. but with loads of down time, then there is plenty of time to do a pre-inspection of every mechanical part, and find all those faults, and then next breakdown you got the parts handy!!
Problem is on going & council should be sorting this.
Next year the council tax will accelerate up wuthout doubt & we have to pay extra to cover the councils past incompitance.
Hope the new council will sort it out but not much action so far!
Still to busy getting a plan of action together!!!!!

Perhaps it’s about time to look into the manager to see if these issues are real. Is the manager fiddling the company or is the company doing repairs sabotaging for more money. This is a total money pit and beyond belief now. Send in the fraud investigator or genuine marine engineers!
It should only be ‘breaking news’ now to report when this shoddy thing IS operating!!
