The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for 10 days from the start of next week for its annual refit.
It has been confirmed by the Isle of Wight Council that the East Cowes – Cowes service will be suspended from Monday (24th March).
A normal timetabled operation will resume on the morning of Thursday 3rd April.
The usual passenger launch service for pedestrians and cyclists will operate across the River Medina during the period of suspension.
Last month it was revealed that the troubled Floating Bridge service generated a £500,000 loss last year.
In March last year, County Hall’s cabinet unanimously agreed to replace Floating Bridge 6, which was first introduced to the River Medina in May 2017. As a result, in the next couple of months, an engagement process is expected to begin with the public and local stakeholders.
Does anyone have figures that show how many days the Boaty-McBoatface worked since its inception in 2017? From my memory, it either has broken down (again), there isn’t staff available, or it needs a refit or service.
Indeed, when the Isle of Wight Council approved the purchase, there were terms and conditions, which I assume would have included money back for failure to perform.
What a waste of money.

How come it needs a refit ? The damn thing is never in use so can’t have any old or worn out part’s. Come on people this is a case of progress is better NOT we need to go back to one of our other designs that actually worked!!!!
