A yellow weather warning for both heavy rain and strong gales has been issued for the Isle of Wight.
Forecasters at IW Met Service – the Island’s trusted weather provider – say that a spell of strong winds, accompanied by some potentially very heavy rain, will develop late on Saturday afternoon and into the evening.
For a time the rain could fall at an extremely high rate with anything between 10mm and 20mm worth falling in just a few hours, leading to the potential of localised flash flooding.
Wind gusts of 50-60mph are expected with the heaviest rainfall. Whilst this alone wouldn’t warrant a warning, when combined with the rainfall and the fact the a lot of trees are still in leaf, it will give some treacherous driving conditions with lots of tree debris on the roads. Motorists can expect plenty of spray and standing water.
The rainfall peak is expected at some point between 17:00 and 21:00, although the exact timing is difficult to pinpoint. The warnings are in force from 17:00 until 23:00 tomorrow.
Travel disruptions are likely, with delays expected on cross-Solent travel.

Wait until P enny F eather and the rest of Ryde is concreted over, the massive run off into Monkton brook will be way too much for the measures in place, and flooding will occur once again in the Strand and low lying properties.
Our greedy corrupt council with its cosy relationship with developers though will ensure none of them are living anywhere near the ruination this ‘development’ aka ruination, brings.
Vote them OUT at the next given chance.
Who cares dreg
I blame it all on the council, Island Roads, refugees and large housing developers. Have I forgotten anyone? 🙁
Yes dirty leech like overners and visitors to the Island, bringing their Covid with them. Apparently.
Yes Eve, yourself, for not seeing an issue until it is too late, and putting trust into those people whose interests in en masse building is not for the people, but for themselves.
Here we go again, yet another inappropriate tedious rant about housing estates….and no I don’t support it, quite the opposite, but there is a time and a place…….
The time and the place is now. No use moaning when crime soars, the maternity ward is full to bursting, the adoption services are begging people to take the unwanted children, wives and daughters are afraid to go out alone, the young are pressured into drugs, and knifed or shot for being in the wrong gang.
Some like to avoid problems BEFORE they occur, others like to hide heads in the sand, then moan, when it is all too late.
If the cap fits…
