UPDATED: A fishing vessel has washed up onto the beach between Sandown and Shanklin overnight, prompting a Coastguard response to the scene.
At around 01:40 this morning (Wednesday) a lone skipper on board a 26ft fishing vessel reported to Solent Coastguard that his anchor had broke free and that he had run aground at Hope Beach.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were immediately mobilised to the scene to assess the state of the vessel, ‘Blue Fin’, any causalities and to clear debris from the beach.
A cordon has been set up around the vessel and HM Coastguard remain on scene awaiting a salvage tug to pull the boat clear at high tide.
Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat are also assisting with recovery of the local boat.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the incident.
UPDATE @ 14:30 – The Blue Fin has been successfully refloated this afternoon after receiving help from the volunteer crew of Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat to patch up some of the damage sustained in this morning’s incident.
A barge has towed the fishing vessel clear of the shore.
