Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Cowes RNLI lifeboat this afternoon (Thursday) following reports of fishing boat needing assistance.
Cowes Lifeboat was launched just after 14:30 into a south-westerly 6-7 wind to assist the casualty vessel suffering from engine failure and drifting on the tide 1-mile north-west of Cowes Harbour.
The volunteer crew motored to the vessel at a good speed and within moments of hitting the water were alongside.
The fishing boat was in the area where commercial shipping takes a sharp turn. Fortunately, there wasn’t any ships passing through when the fishing boat’s engine failed.
Having ascertained the 2 persons on board were OK, the lifeboat crew established a tow and took the boat to a safe berth at Trinity Landing, Cowes.
