The first Isle of Wight Amateur Theatre Awards will be held at Northwood House on 14th March 2025, celebrating the thriving Island theatre community.
Judges have attended more than 40 plays, musicals and pantomimes during 2024, with theatre groups and nominated actors invited to come along to hear the results of their deliberations.
During the initial season in 2022-23, awards were announced online and certificates sent out, but this year there was clearly an appetite for an event to celebrate the great theatre here on the Island. Priority tickets went on sale to nominees this week.
The house bar will be open through the evening; guests will be seated at tables in a cabaret-style arrangement and there will be time to chat alongside the more formal awards process. If there is the interest, it is envisage expanding the event next year to include live entertainment.
This year the awards have been expanded. As well as best shows and actors, there are awards for best technical design: costumes: music and singing: choreography, and direction as well as the John Hannam Award, a tribute to the originator of the Isle of Wight Theatre Awards.
An IW Amateur Theatre Awards spokesperson has said:
“We haven’t forgotten our young performers – as there are so many talented youngsters, we have decided to hold a separate event for them– details will be announced soon.
“Please check our website over the coming weeks for updates in the lead up for the Awards Evening – and congratulations and good luck to all the amazing nominees.”
