Firefighters are tackling a shipping container well alight in a yard near Arreton this afternoon (Friday).
Pumping appliances from Newport were first called to the scene at around 15:30 following reports of a fire at a yard off Downend Road.
Main jets are being used to extinguish a blaze that has engulfed a small shipping container.
Island Echo readers reported seeing thick black smoke in the area as the fire broke out. It is unclear how the incident started.
Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, remain on scene.
UPDATE – Appliances from Newport and Shanklin attended the incident, alongside a water carrier from Freshwater.
It is understood an electrical fault was to blame.
Makes one wonder what people store in these
metal monstrosities.
Do you have any other hobbies other than commenting mindless drivel on every single island echo article?
Plenty of hobbies thank you.
Dog walking, playing golf and swimming.
Being retired you have more time on your
hands and get to see things others don’t,
hence commenting on articles, obviously
you have plenty of time to read one’s drivel.
Mayne you are one of those working from home
charlitans.
Lol
I doubt they do!
Just come back from a round of golf,
obviously you are another fan.
I am starting to build up a fan club of
people who like hearing the truth about
speeding Numpty’s.
