Firefighters were called to Sandown following reports of smoke issuing from beneath a man hole and a smell of burning earlier this afternoon (Thursday).
A retained crew from Shanklin was called at around 13:00 to St John’s Crescent and instigated a cordon as the electricity board isolated the power and investigated the burn which had then stopped.
The incident was left with the electricity board as firefighters returned to station shortly before 14:00.
A power outage continues to affect 22 properties in the area although an engineer is on site and SSEN estimate that power will be restored by 17:00.
