Fire crews from Newport and East Cowes have been called in to deal with flooding at a commercial premises in Newport this morning (Saturday).
Newport’s retained appliance was mobilised to Utilita on Newport High Street at around 10:00 following reports of water making its way down through the second and first floors of the building, situated between Vision Express and EE.
The Incident Support Unit from East Cowes was then mobilised to the scene at 10:15 to provide further equipment to help resolve the rather damp situation.
Crews are now packing away equipment whilst awaiting the arrival of SSEN.
The shop is currently closed with no electricity supply.
The High Street remains open to all traffic.

Expect more of this as the Island is covered in more concrete and brick, with naturally green fields, huge trees and hedges which soak up water are lost, not for a while, but for the rest of eternity.
Vote this council OUT next time.
Why don’t you read the report, all the green fields, hedges and trees in world, will not have any effect on a leaky roof!
The ‘point’ IS the point.
How would that help with a leaking roof ?
The point of the matter is the more you build the more you expect our services to be putting up with stupid shit like this and wasting resources for a puddle in a fucking shop, it’s pathetic if they’re that worried tell the staff to get a mop and bucket out and do their jobs! They’re the ones with the duty of care to their store not the fire brigade
