Firefighters from Ryde have attended a reported car fire on the outskirts of the town this afternoon (Monday), however thankfully the incident was less serious than first feared.
One appliance was sent to the scene on Beaper Shute at 16:25 after a Vauxhall Zafira started smoking heavily from the engine bay, which prompted the occupants of the vehicle to call the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire crews have now left the scene having taken minimal action, however Police are with the vehicle due to its position on the main Ryde to Brading road.
Vauxhall Zafira B cars have been recalled for a 2nd time by the manufacturer following a spate of car fires affecting the model up and down the country.
