UPDATED: Firefighters from Newport and Ventnor are attending a road traffic collision on Newport Road in Niton this evening (Monday).
2 fire appliances, Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Bierley at 17:00.
It is feared at least 1 person is trapped inside a vehicle.
The road is closed in both directions between Southford Lane and Kingates Lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 17:44 – Fire crews are working to free the driver of a car which has overturned and come to rest on its side.
The severity of the injuries sustained is currently unknown.
Motorists should continue to avoid the area, diverting via Whitwell.
UPDATE @ 18:23– An elderly male has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital after being freed from his vehicle. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The Ford Fusion has now been recovered from the scene and emergency services have stood down.
