UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a block of flats in the heart of Ryde tonight (Sunday) over fears of a fire at the propery.
2 appliances from Ryde, 1 appliance from Newport and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde are currently on scene at Victoria Street, with the Incident Command Unit en-route.
Residents have evacuated Garfield House and are now on the street in bitterly cold conditions.
UPDATE @ 22:20 – The incident has been deemed a false alarm by firefighters, who are now standing down from the incident following final checks.
Victoria Street remains open as normal.
