Firefighters from Ryde, Newport and Ventnor are tackling a fire in the open in East Cowes this morning (Tuesday).
At just before 10:00, an appliance from Ryde was mobilised to an area near to the coast, thought to be between the Osborne House estate and the Norris Castle estate.
Now, a second appliance from Newport has arrived on scene and the water carrier from Ventnor is en-route.
Smoke can be seen rising into the sky on a local webcam.
UPDATE @ 11:08 – It has been confirmed that a bonfire became out of control at an address on the Springhill estate off Millfield Avenue.
Crews are working to prevent the fire from spreading to a hedgerow.

Queen Victoria must turn in her grave to see her once beautiful Island home ruined by chavs, and her Great Empire and Capital filled with muggers, knife attacks, shootings, acid attacks and her subjects run over on the pavements.
Soon the living will envy the past even more as crime worsens here too.
Bonfire on a hot sunny morning. Arrogant selfish …….
I believe you are not supposed to light a bonfire before 4-30 in the afternoon as people will have washing out or sitting in there gardens
That’s a load of tosh, there are no laws regarding restrictions on bonfires. Keep making up nonsense laws that don’t exist.
It wasn’t a bonfire the occupier noticed smoke coming from the bottom of the field and realised that a small fire had been set during the previous night. When the occupier found the embers still glowing and the fire reigniting. It would also appear that the fence had been breached during the evening/night. So speculating that a bonfire was had during this weather is rather presumptive.
If people set these bonfire & let them to get out of control should be charged for the services who attend.
Surely if fire is reasonable kept small & attender there would not be a problem.
There have been a few fires started in the area recently
