Fire crews from Ryde and Newport are in attendance in the centre of Ryde this evening (Monday), but there are no obvious signs of fire.
Multiple appliances – including an Aerial Ladder Platform – are on scene at George Street, close to the junction with Castle Street.
Firefighters are searching around the local area but there are no signs of fire.
George Street is currently blocked by emergency vehicles, which is causing delays to Southern Vectis buses.
UPDATE @ 20:10 – Hampshire Fire Control has confirmed that a total of 5 appliances were mobilised to the scene at 19:39 this evening.
2 crews from Newport, 2 crews from Ryde and 1 crew from Sandown were sent to reports of smoke coming from a launderette on George Street at the junction of Castle Street.
However, it transpired to be condensation coming from a vent.
The stop message was received at 20:00 and crews are now returning to their home stations.
