A kitchen fire has been prevented thanks to working smoke alarms and the quick actions of firefighters from Sandown this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to a terraced property on Lea Road at just before 14:30 when smoke alarms alerted the homeowner to a potential fire in the kitchen.
The first firefighters on scene entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and removed a pan from the kitchen stove.
Although a second appliance from Ryde mobilised to the incident, the crew were quickly stood down once on scene.
Tim Spencer-Peet of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has highlighted the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted in the home, especially in incidents such as this.
