UPDATED: Sainsbury’s Petrol Station in Newport has been cordoned off by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon (Friday).
Appliances from Newport, Cowes and Ryde are on scene at Hunnycross Way, alongside the Incident Command Unit.
It is currently unclear what has prompted the emergency response but witnesses say close inspections are taking place at one of the pumps.
UPDATE @ 15:52 – A 15×18 metres spillage has now been contained by fire crews.
The petrol station is to remain closed until an engineer can attend.
