Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called a property fire near Pondwell this evening (Friday).
Fire crews from Ryde and Sandown have been mobilised to an address on Oakhill Road.
1 hose reel jet is being used to extinguish the fire. A strong smell is lingering in the night air.
Nobody has been injured in the incident which is said to be under control.
Crews were called out at around 20:20.
UPDATE @ 21:10 – Fire control has confirmed that a fire broke out within a bedroom on the first floor of a residential property.
A mattress caught alight.
Crews have used 2 breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. They also used positive pressure ventilation to rid the property of smoke before standing down from the incident.
