Used to happen too often in the past here. This could well be a genuine accidental fire, but struggling business owners now know cv will prevent many insurance company investigators coming here, so in hard times, the temptation will be great for those who are desperate.
for a single room not worth it due to the insurance company loading the premium next renewable date
Fair point, unless panic took over or the blaze didn’t.
I feel sorry for owners of such, as to rewire would cost more than a years earnings. Sadly such places just are awaiting demolishing, which is a shame as if cash could be found are real character places.

The electrical wiring in these huge, ancient Hotels is often dire. Whilst they have to have a new ‘certificate’ every year or so, the testers cannot possibly test all effectively, as there is miles of cable of varying ages, hidden in walls, under floor, in lofts, been spliced into, cut and altered and botched, and it would take a month to do the job just of testing to NIECE standard properly.
I doubt the SEB or a major firm have ever tested it, just those who likely don’t wish to look too hard. Could be wrong, but have seen it when I worked there some years back now, apologies IF it has been rewired since.
Shame such places are now too large to refurbish in these impoverished times.
oh get off your high horse i stayed there this year for dinner and a night it was nice yes a bit tired but come on these places employ people the need jobs to live
