Residents in Sandown fear they will be left without a Post Office in the town following the closure of Central’s Avenue Road store at the weekend.
The convenience store closed yesterday (Sunday) but the Post Office counter will continue to operate for the next 6 months until March 2023.
However, it is currently unclear what will happen come the Spring and whether or not the Post Office will be able to find a new home in Sandown.
The Post Office was previously located on Beachfield Road before moving to Spar on Albert Road. It then moved again to Central following the closure of the Albert Road shop, although it has now re-opened as a Premier.
The counter service at Avenue Road is now open between 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday only.
It’s thought that redundancies have been avoided with staff relocating to other stores in the chain.

Until Post Office becomes a better business model nobody will want the franchise. Several business owners looked at the one in Newport and nobody wanted it.
I wonder how they will make that work then (profit wise).
It just don’t add up.
But i must admit that they will save a small fortune, from all the shop lifters that shop there.
Not the best area of Sandown, drug central imo.
I would imagine that they are under contract till March to run the post office
I think it’s terrible.
I think it is worser.
