41-year-old Daniel Kilshaw, a prolific local thief with over 30 previous criminal convictions, is finally behind bars this week after being sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing a car and crashing it into a wall in Ryde.
It was on 13th August that Kilshaw was arrested by Police after crashing a black Citroen C2 into a wall on Bettesworth Road – a car he had stolen from outside an address in Shanklin the night before.
Kilshaw, who previously lived at multiple addresses in the Sandown area, was arrested at the scene before being questioned and remanded in custody. He then appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to a string of offences including dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
The incident occurred just days after Kilshaw was handed a 26-week prison sentence – suspended for 12 months – for stealing £345 worth of clothing from TK Maxx.
Kilshaw, a Class A drug addict, has appeared in the courts frequently in recent years and possesses an extensive criminal record – but it’s only now that his mugshot has been released as a result of being handed a prison sentence in excess of 12 months.
Island Echo has reported on several of Kilshaw’s court appearances including 7 counts of theft and possession of a knife in October 2020, possession of 13 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine in December 2021, plus an appearance in March of this year when he caused criminal damage to Sandham House in Sandown. In June of this year, Kilshaw stole £600 worth of goods from Sports Direct in Newport.
Appearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday), Judge Shepherd sentenced Daniel David Kilshaw to 18 months behind bars, as well as banning him from driving for a total of 3 years and 9 months.
It’s possible that Kilshaw will be back on the streets by next Summer…
Next summer! Out by Christmas judging by the other sentences given to similar island low life’s, idiots like this ruin the island and make it far less appealing for people to visit
So after 18 months detained at HMP – should he do 18 months – he will be a recovered drug, drink, continual crime breaker? What a waste of tax payers money, gets a nice warm free home for the next 6 months with no bills whilst we foot them, then out possible by next summer. Who’s the idiot here????
Great job, should be a longer sentence though.
On release no doubt he will offend again.
Career criminals like Kilshaw will never change, so does society have an answer? Punitive prison sentences obviously don’t work, he’ll be back in the news upon release, driving whilst disqualified for starters.
Meanwhile honest law abiding citizens all become potential victims to this individuals continued criminality.
Our laws in the UK are most definitely out of date and need updating. Scum like him spend their whole sorry life breaking the law. Should’ve locked up indefinitely.
So, with the 50% ‘discount’ on prison sentences he will be out in 9 months, IF he has been locked up since the offence then that will be taken as time served so let’s assume he will be out in 7-8 months so our streets will be re-infected by March April time! His habit will be well catered for inside so he will still be a class ‘A’ junkie when forced to live in a bail hostel by the probation service for the remaining 9 months of his sentence, unless or until he gets kicked out again. As usual we will have to live with the extra damage he causes our Island. Why didn’t the courts include his suspended sentence to show him they have at least a small amount of deterrent upon criminals?
18 months free board and lodgings, so crime does pay for this scumbag.
Please lose the key.
He won’t worry about heating cost or food cost this winter, when lots of elderly people will die….crime does pay for some….
More than this aswell he could of killed someone .
Should be banned from the Island !! What good is banning him from driving, if he does not have a licence ??
Looks like he’s shit himself
Thats a face you’d like to punch.
Looks like it has been. Repeatedly.
So wrong,a car is a dangerous weapon when driven by these idiots, like a knife or gun and when you have done many times before should be locked up a long time to protect others, made to work for his keep eg heating and food like others. Seems so unfair when you have drivers all legal but have an acident and someone hurt or killed and get a greater sentence because they often say sorry and are suffering guilt. That teacher on military road some years back who’s fiancee died when he miss judged comes to mind, think how he was feeling knowing his actions killed his soul mate – yet on top of that he’s sent to prison. Or the girl that her lack of awareness of poor street signage at accident black spot caused bus to swerve .
He won’t change until he kicks his habit. Even if he cleans himself up, he’ll be released in to the same crowd of “friends” so it’ll be step backwards. There needs to be places where they can go after leaving prison, such as farms or horticultural places where they can be employed and get a sense of discipline in their lives for a while. Then maybe the next step back into society won’t be such a huge jump.
This is what happens when you allow people with a low IQ breed. You get more dumb arse knobs.
his parents and siblings are nice law abiding people it’s only this idiot
Why not give the same restrictions and the same community outcast status to people like this that pedophiles rightly get? I.e there’s no reason for people like this to be near schools, near the highstreet or public places like beaches where he may rob or disrupt normal people’s lives. He should have one small area he’s confined to.
Complete, total waster. Should be banned for life, pathetic weak sentence. Lock them up and throw away the key. Simple
Glad the vermin is behind bars. Given his history of criminal behaviour, he should serve the full sentence. If he is let out early, it will be a disgrace. People like him have got to be taught a lesson. He cannot think he can go around stealing and taking drugs and get away with it.
Nice photo mate! See you next summer
