Key Isle of Wight stakeholders gathered to hear an update on the progress of the EnergyWise project in its first 3 months at an event held at Cowes’ Building 41 earlier this month.
This free service provides personalised advice and practical solutions to help households improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.
Between July and September 2024, EnergyWise reached 565 Islanders through in-person outreach events. Of these, 289 received personalised energy advice, and a further 57 homes underwent detailed thermal surveys.
These figures represent some of the best-performing statistics for the wider demonstrator across the UK. However, project organisers remain focused on increasing these numbers significantly over the winter months, especially in light of recent energy price hikes and the cancellation of the Winter Fuel Payment.
Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Biosphere, and Waste, praised the initiative at the event:
“This is a superb opportunity for everyone on the Island to access expert, impartial advice on home energy efficiency and heating. I cannot endorse EnergyWise strongly enough and encourage Islanders to book a free advice session with one of their local staff.”
Councillor Claire Critchison also emphasised the importance of the project, saying:
“The EnergyWise project is so important to move forward heating changes in our homes. Residents need to know how these works can realistically be achieved and need to be able to trust that they will really make a difference.
With so many scams and failed options in the past, it can be a struggle to get people on board.
“I look forward to establishing partnerships with Green IOW to deliver and fund energy and heating upgrades needed in our IW homes.”
The EnergyWise project is run by Green Isle of Wight CIC and offers its services at no cost to residents, made possible through funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
