Emergency services are in attendance at MHI Vestas on Stag Lane in Newport this evening (Wednesday) following reports of a Hazmat incident.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised multiple fire appliances to the MHI Vestas Offshore Wind blade factory at the bottom of Stag Lane.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has also dispatched a number of resources to the incident, with local police officers also in attendance.
Hampshire Fire Control has confirmed they mobilised crews from Newport, alongside a duty fire officer, at 19:26.
HAZMAT is an abbreviation for hazardous materials – substances in quantities or forms that may pose a reasonable risk to health, property, or the environment.
UPDATE @ 20:10 – Crews are starting to stand down from the incident. The stop message has been received by fire control.
Thankfully, staff at the factory have been able to contain the hazardous material preventing a larger scale incident.
UPDATE @ 20:15 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident.
They really are trained in so many things these firemen, such a varied job to have.
