Cries for help heard by concerned members of the public – that later transpired to be a result of someone falling into the water – led to the launch of Bembridge RNLI lifeboat late last night (Friday).
HM Coastguard tasked the D-class inshore lifeboat from Bembridge and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team at 23:30 following reports that cries for help had been heard from a motor cruiser moored at the visitor pontoon in Bembridge Harbour.
Bembridge CRT arrived on scene 1st and found 2 casualties 1 1 of whom had apparently fallen overboard and hit their head and another that had gone into the water to rescue them. By this time both had returned to the motor cruiser.
The lifeboat arrived on scene at 23:45 to assist Coastguards in performing their preliminary checks.
An ambulance arrived at 00:10 and the casualty was handed over.
A spokesperson for Bembridge RNLI has said:
”Members of the public called this in last night and potentially saved lives. This is what we need – be vigilant, be aware and call 999 and ask for coastguard if you are ever concerned”.

Probably pissed.. 11.30 at night fooling around. Hope they give a big donation. And slap on the wrists..Selfish Snotty people.
Were you there @ Robot? You seem so knowledgeable about the incident?!
You are a very miserable grumpy old man!!! Slightly sorry for you, mmm but not too much! Chill out life’s for living!!
I don’t judge. Perhaps you shouldn’t too
Well done all those involved getting them sorted out. It’s the lifeboat team I feel for being called out to daft people but thank goodness we have this facility.
Let’s be vigilant about all screams and cries for help
Hey the RNLI did an absolutely fabulous job. I watch saving lives at sea and I’m in awe of these guys x
