The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to an electrical transformer fire near Freshwater Bay this morning (Thursday).
Firefighters from both Newport and Freshwater Fire Stations were alerted to the high voltage electricity transformer fire in the early hours.
It is thought the fire was caused by the adverse weather that battled the island overnight.
Crews initially worked in a defensive mode by setting up a fan spray to protect the nearby domestic property and utilised safety jets to protect the surrounding land.
Once the electricity has been isolated, the firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
After the fire was extinguished and crews were happy the fire was out, they stood down and returned to their stations.

Well done to everyone involved with putting out such a dangerous fire.
A very dangerous situation. Electricity especially high voltage and water a lethal combi. Well done all.
