80-year-old Linda Smith, who is accused of attempting to murder a man in his 80s, has been remanded in prison ahead of a Crown Court appearance next month.
Smith, of Manor Crescent on Pan Estate, Newport appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday (Thursday) charged with attempted murder.
It was during the early hours of Wednesday morning that emergency services responded to reports of an attack at a semi-detached home on Manor Crescent. At the scene, a man in his 80s was found with serious injuries which resulted in an 80-year-old woman being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detectives spent the day conducting enquiries into the incident, which led to Linda Smith being charged with the more serious offence of attempted murder. She was remanded in custody overnight to appear before the next available court.
At yesterday’s hearing, Magistrates acknowledged the matter was out of their jurisdiction and sent the case up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing will take place on 7th February.
Linda Smith has been remanded in custody until her next appearance.
