A 57-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy, who were both arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive substance for unlawful purpose, have been bailed by Police.
As first reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called at 17:30 on Tuesday to an address at Cockleton Lane in Gurnard following concerns about an ‘object’ that had been located.
Police cordoned off a lodge at Gurnard Pines and called in specialist personnel from the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team based in Portsmouth. They deployed a robot to examine and remove the object for safe disposal.
A heavy Police presence remained in Gurnard yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) as detectives quizzed their suspects.
It has now been confirmed that the duo have been bailed until 11th and 12th June respectively whilst investigations continue.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
