This year’s annual duck race, in aid of Aspire, will be held on Easter Weekend (Saturday 19th April) at Shide.
For 2025, Year 6 pupils at Nettlestone Primary School asked if they could support Aspire. So, with the help of event sponsors Horsler Lift Services, 30 plastic ducks have been donated for the children to decorate and take home.
Kirstie Horsler of Horsler Lifts will provide prizes and give them a duck each in the race on the day.
Photos of the ducks will be at the duck race on Easter Saturday at 12:00, where you can watch 1,100 (plastic) ducks float down the River Medina – ducks cost £1 and are available at Wight Building Supplies, Bargeman’s Rest, Dairyman’s Daughter, Jewsons Sandown, Arch, Aspire Café or online.
A Horsler Lifts Services, spokesperson has said:
“Horsler Lifts are supporting Aspire annual duck race and we were all excited to hear the pupils wanted to get involved so they have accepted the challenge to decorate their very own yellow duck, the creative suggestions were flying out from sports themes to Donald Trump!
“We will return for the hard task of judging. All the children in Year 6 will be gifted an entry into the duck race on Saturday 19th April not to mention some special prizes for entering the competition.
“We love any opportunity to be involved with the local community. Horsler Lifts has been based in Ryde since 2020 and love being immersed in Island life.”

“We are very grateful to Kirstie and the team for their support for Aspire all the money raised will help us to continue our work with the Island community, supporting those vulnerable people in need with food, community groups, Living Well and Early help service giving help when needed. All based in a decommissioned church in Ryde.”
