A driver has been arrested after his vehicle veered off the road, through a number of trees and flipped over a stream off the main Newport to Yarmouth Road earlier tonight (Friday).
Emergency services were called to Yarmouth Road, just to the west of Shalfleet, at around 21:00 following reports that a Toyota Yaris had left the carriageway, trapping the sole occupant.
Members of the public were first to arrive on scene and assisted the driver from the vehicle by smashing a window.
Just a short time later, Police, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service arrived to discover debris and a heavily damaged car.
Island Echo understands the Yaris was travelling towards Newport when it left the road, narrowly avoiding larger trees but flattening a number of others before coming to a stop upside down in the bushes.
The car flipped over the Atkies Stream at the entrance to Footpath S13.
The male driver has now been arrested and taken to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment. He is expected to be transferred to custody in due course.
Yarmouth Road was closed for a time but has since reopened.
Good another Numpty off our roads, still more
Numpty’s to catch, but one by one they are being caught.
I wonder if it’s the same lad who was following me earlier that day clearly texting while driving. I hate to say it, but at times they deserve this to happen tl them to make them wake up.
You only have to look in your rear view
Mirror. 80% of drivers are texting or looking
at their phones whilst driving
CAMERA’S ARE NEEDED ISLANDWIDE
80 percent of drivers on their phones while driving? Oh dear oh dear. You really must try and bridle your passion for making up at least a hundred percent of your ‘statistical’ claims, EIE. By vomiting out such frothing at the mouth rubbish you devalue what should be a serious issue. Do try and engage your brain before getting the green ink out…
Obviously you don’t like to hear the truth
so sad, bless you.
‘Tis the season of upturned cars again
Indeed it is
The way some drivers drive on this island is nothing less than criminal. They put innocent people’s lives in danger. They also put up everyone’s insurance because the cost of these virtually everyday crashes must be astronomical! Those that complain about the slow ‘island drivers’ are those that put lives in danger everyday. Well, I’ve got news for YOU lot: YOU CAN’T DRIVE AT 70 MPH ALONG WINDING COUNTRY ROADS AND NOT EXPECT TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CAR/VAN ON A BEND! I see van/car drivers speeding down (40 mph plus) Carisbrooke High Street at 7 a.m EVERY day. They are obviously rushing to get to work, and I’m in no doubt that they must be going much faster (70 mph) on roads such as Middle Road. More traffic police are needed and bigger fines issued. Insurance companies need to price these reckless drivers completely off our roads. On a different note, WHO are these imbeciles that have loud, antisocial car exhausts? Completely BRAINLESS!
The Traffic Law needs increasing on the island.
To pay for the extra Police required IW Council
could roll out islandwide permit parking fees and
that would raise enough money to pay for the extra
Police required to make our roads safe.
20mph is needed, with Khan’s London style
Camera’s, not just stick up a few 20mph signs
that motorists laugh at!
100% With any luck, his insurance company ( if he has insurance) will not pay out on his car if convicted of DD/drug driving. That’s a lesson everyone should take onboard. Getting proof is subject to GDPR so we’ll never know for sure…But that looks like a big ££££ loss.
Graham I visited my sister earlier this evening
she lives along Great Preston Road in Ryde
she said all day long you can hear vehicles
speeding along this Road.
There needs to be speed humps along this Road
to slow traffic down, is it shocking.
I have never known a place that allow vehicles to
speed.
You rarely see Police thesedays, you never see them
walking the beat either.
Police need to park their speed van along Great Preston Road
they would catch many speeding motorists, all times of the
day and night.
Another wanker at least he’s off the road for a while..
Many more to go.
Another idiot that ran out of Talent. Honestly, it’s getting like LA over here!
