Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Marine Support Unit arrested 2 men on board a boat at the weekend following an ‘altercation’ on the River Medina.
The exact circumstances of the incident – which occurred while the Isle of Wight Festival was taking place nearby – were not immediately clear from a post issued on social media.
The Marine Support Unit said:
“Marine Unit have tonight facilitated the arrest of 2 suspects on board a boat on the River Medina who were wanted for numerous offences. The suspects failed to cooperate with landside police and the Harbour Master and were intercepted as they fled the area”.
Now, a spokesperson for the Force has confirmed that officers were investigating an altercation.
In a statement, it has been said:
“At around 17:10 on Saturday 17th June officers were called to the moorings near The Folly Inn to reports of an altercation between 3 men.
“2 men, aged 42 and 35, were arrested in connection with the incident. They have both been released without charge.”
