UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are working to free a donkey that has become stuck down a drain in Wroxall.
Crews from Sandown, Shanklin and Newport are on scene at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary alongside the Animal Rescue Unit and the service’s Land Rover from Ryde.
It is currently unclear how the animal fell down the drain at the popular attraction.
UPDATE @ 11:39 – Firefighters have successfully freed the animal from its predicament. A vet has sedated the donkey to allow its leg to be removed from the drain.
Crews are now leaving the scene and returning to station.
A sign on the gate states that The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is closed today.
