Police are appealing for witnesses to a dangerous dog incident in Newport earlier today (Thursday).
Between 09:45 and 10:30 a man had been walking through the town with a dog – described as a Staffy x Bull Mastiff cross.
The dog is reported to have been aggressive and lunged and jumped at members of the public.
Police attended and arrested a 38-year-old man in Orchard Street on suspicion of being the owner or person in charge of a dangerously out of control dog, and possession of Class A drugs.
He remains in custody at this time.
The dog has been seized by police.

Don’t blame the dogs for peeing on the pavements. Drunks on the mainland crap and pee wherever they can. Years ago when I was a security officer in a large supermarket, I witnessed a middle aged woman standing in the middle of a aisle with her legs apart peeing like there was no tomorrow. Next you are going to tell me that humans are intelligent, leave it out.
The dog has obviously been encouraged by the dopehead owner and so unfortunately will likely have to be destroyed through no fault of its own. If not I hope it goes to a kind home and manages to get retrained and not returned to this waste of space. The owner should be barred from owning any animal for life.
All dog owners should have a dog licence,

Strange how logical thought and reason evaporate for so many people when dogs are concerned. It’s not a question of fault with the dog, it’s a question of temperament. Like some humans, some dogs are aggressive and dangerous. Like some humans, some can’t be trained. They then have to be or should be removed from society for the safety of others. Unfortunately in many people’s opinion, we can’t /won’t put dangerous humans down, but dangerous animals have to be removed. Oh and before all the devoted doggy ‘parents’ start to howl , I’ve had and trained and loved dogs for six decades. One was mentally deranged from birth and when it bit a child it had to go. Broke our hearts but it was unquestionably the right thing to do.
But when it’s assumed that a particular dog breed is”dangerously out of control”thanks to the Daily Fail and a government with a yellow streak that runs thru it’s spine and spat out the dangerous dogs act which hasn’t worked because on the rise are the fashion dogs of the moments Dachshunds”they can be vile mean little buggers because they are ratting dogs it’s in their DNA a friend has three of them and no cat,rabbit bird are safe from them they hunt in packs and will bite you,I have always had staffie x and bully breeds for past thirty years all rescue along with my Ronnie rescues and more likely to get a nip from the Rommies than any of the bullies ..”Deed not breed”I hope the idjeets which are isle of Wight Police get a proper dog assessor in and not somebody who has owned a Labrador all their lives!!!!!
