There are travel delays in Havenstreet this afternoon (Thursday) following a road traffic collision involving a Suzuki Alto.

The small, red hatchback has collided with a bank on a narrow stretch of Combley Road, which runs from Briddlesford Road towards Havenstreet.

Police are in attendance at the scene having been alerted to the incident at around 13:50. They say the vehicle suffered a suspect tyre blowout.

The driver of the vehicle – thought to be a young woman – has escaped any serious injury.

Havenstreet is particularly busy with traffic in both directions today due to the closure of The Downs, between Knighton and Downend, for roadworks.

Recovery of the car has been arranged and is likely to result in a temporary blocking of the carriageway.

Editor’s footnote: It was initially reported that a Kia Picanto was involved. The incident in fact involves a similar looking vehicle, a Suzuki Alto.
