A number of highly offensive Swastika symbols – which are associated with Nazi Germany – have been sprayed onto the doors of a school in Ventnor overnight.
The unmistakable graffiti has appeared on doors and signs around St Catherine’s School in Grove Road this morning (Friday).
Local residents have expressed their shock at the situation and have shared these photos with Island Echo, calling those responsible ‘evil vandals’.
St Catherine’s, a school which specialises in education for children with special needs, now faces a cleanup bill as a result of the mindless criminal damage.
It is thought the damage was caused sometime overnight – Thursday into Friday.
Disgraceful behaviour. I wonder if they even know the history of Nazi atrocities (no excuse, of course, but a couple of years ago I had a 16 year old ask me what Hitler had done and was he British!) At least he gave me the chance to put him right, but this lack of awareness is endemic.
My granddaughter said she didnt know anything about Hitler or the war as it is not taught at school – she is 13. I was shocked to hear that as I thought the war and its atrocities would have been taught in their history lessons.

As a student of history, it’s very disappointing anyone could use this sign. It was stolen in the first place by the Nazis. Ignorance of history and a lack of education.
