UPDATED: Detectives from Newport CID are in attendance in Gurnard this morning (Thursday), alongside a forensic investigator.
Hampshire Constabulary were called to an address on Marsh Road shortly before 09:30, prompting several units – including the Armed Response Unit – to respond to the scene.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were also mobilised but the service has since stood down. It is understood that no casualties have been conveyed to hospital.
Hampshire’s local forensic investigator has arrived on scene and is starting an examination.
Marsh Road remains open to pedestrians and traffic.
UPDATE @ 16:32 – Police have confirmed that the body of a 70-year-old man was discovered in a house on Marsh Road this morning.
The death isn’t being treated as suspicious and next of kin have been informed.
