A decision on whether to approve a Motor Race Order submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by Isle of Wight Road Races won’t be made until early next year, it has been confirmed.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a formal Motor Race Order has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, along with evidence of a race permit issued by the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU).
It comes ahead of the proposed races between 20th-24th April 2022.
The council will now consider and determine the application and a report will be brought before the Cabinet early next year for a decision.
Councillor Phil Jordan, Cabinet member for transport and infrastructure, said:
“At this stage, it would be inappropriate for the council to comment on a live application.
“There will, however, be a period of consultation when people will have the opportunity to have their say on the proposal and further details will be announced in due course.”
In addition to the Motor Race Order, the council will also be required to consider a temporary traffic regulation order for the road closures.
Legislation dictates that where a closure will remain in place for longer than 3 days — and the council was minded to approve the application — further approval must also be sought from the Secretary of State for Transport at least 4 weeks before the start of the event. However, changes in law mean that an Act of Parliament is no longer needed to enable motor racing on the public highway.

Bring back Barney’s that’s what we need!
So glad it is being banned, there out there this morning racing up down the coast road it is all I can hear when I’m doing the gardening, terrible idea right from the start.
Can’t wait going to be amazing buzzing at the idea we can legally race round the island without getting fined and with 30,000 bikers expected what a weekend it will be
The sooner they knock this on the head the better-there are loads of people who would be adversely effected by this that are getting stressed out by the thought of this ridiculous proposal
Fingers crossed all goes ahead then.
Just give it up already, there will be so many locals who live near this and will oppose it, that it doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell of going ahead.
I hope i’m wrong, i would love to see this go ahead and line the route somewhere. So to sum up the road closures won’t be a problem as every main road gets closed at a moments notice. Consultation so multiple objections from nimby’s can be lodged and a decision made just late enough for any appeals not to be heard when it gets turned down?
Fingers crossed it goes ahead. Cant wait.
With all the Climate talk, will this event ever happen!
Well the festival did so don’t see why this can’t
Just need the same councillor to pass it
Ban it before more of our young copy such actions and end up in wheel chairs for the state to keep for ever more.
This would be excellent for local business that relies on events. This is after all a holiday destination. The NIMBY lot can just stay at how when it’s on if they don’t like it. The alternative is more businesses going bust and more people on benefits.
Is a great idea, similar to Isle of Man, think of all then money it will bring into this Island.. more than that stupid festival by Newport I bet !!
BUT would be nice if the Police can stop those riding around making their vehicles backfire often. Is some guy in Ryde ( Weeks Road area) small bike, loud exhaust, and back fires often Obvious exhaust been worked on by himself, probably not insured. Possibly the two guys that ride around that same area on pit style bikes, NO REGISTRATION plates… no insurance, prob too young to be on the road.
Please clean up these people before innocent life is taken..
I personally think this will be great for the whole island, and all of the hospitality businesses here. A very much needed shot in the arm at the start of the 2022 season. I am no great motorcycling fan, but I shall be there watching, every day that it is on, supporting the island.
I would much rather this happen than yet another festival.
A professional motor racing event with the best riders from around the world is such a wonderful gift to this Island. It will be over before you know it and cause less nuisance than the festival..lets do something for the Island at least try this race once and then listen to valid concerns. Concern for “horses and cyclist’s” on a closed road for e.g is pure ignorance.
