The Crown Court case against 19-year-old Mackensie Hallett, who is accused of causing the death of teenager Michaela Logan by dangerous driving, has been adjourned until May.
Hallett, of Arundel Road in Ryde, first appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 25th January. The case was deemed too serious to be dealt with by the Magistrates, with the matter sent up to the Crown Court.
Now, following a hearing on Monday, the case against Mack Hallett has been adjourned until 16th May. No plea has yet been entered, but a decision must be made ahead of the next appearance.
Should Mr Hallett plead not guilty, a preliminary trial date has been set for September – meaning the case could drag on for at least another 6 months.
The criminal proceedings come following a fatal road traffic collision at Hale Common in January 2020. 19-year-old Michaela was driving along the main Sandown to Newport road at Hale Common when her Ford Fiesta left the road and collided with a wall. Mr Hallet was in a separate vehicle – a Ford Focus.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of firefighters, paramedics and air ambulance doctors, there was nothing that could be done for Michaela and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
