Islanders are invited to take part in this year’s Dash and Splash fun run from Shanklin to Yaverland next month (Saturday 16th August), with proceeds going to Island-based charity, Aspire.
The 5K event takes participants along the golden sands between Shanklin and Sandown, weaving around groynes at the lowest summer tide. Runners and walkers alike can enjoy a scenic coastal route while raising funds for Aspire’s work in the local community.
The event was the brainchild of Australian volunteer Frederick Fisher, who created Dash and Splash as a fun way to support charity on the Isle of Wight.
This year’s race starts at 10:00 on the beach near Shanklin Rowing Club and finishes by Yaverland Sailing Club. Registration opens at 08:30.
Entry fees are:
- £15 per adult (£20 on the day)
- £5 per child or junior (same on the day)
- Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Age categories include Child (under 14), Junior (14-17), Adult, and Senior (over 65).
All finishers will receive a medal, generously donated by Shanklin Rotary Club.
The event is supported by sponsors including GPSport and Choice Carpets, Lake. Participants can register online at: www.gpsport.eventrac.co.uk/e/dash-and-splash-2025-13319
Aspire provides vital support to the Isle of Wight community through its Living Well Early Help Service, community lunches, warm spaces, activities, a café, soft play and a music hub at its decommissioned church in Ryde.
