The Coastguard helicopter has airlifted an unwell crew member from a cruise ship in Sandown Bay tonight (Monday).
Shortly before 21:30, the Marella Explorer II reported to HM Coastguard that one of the skeleton crew on board had been taken ill.
Coastguard Rescue 175 from Lee-on-Solent was scrambled to airlift the patient from the ship and after circling several times, took the individual on board.
The casualty has since been flown to Solent Airport for onward conveyance to Southampton General Hospital by land.
It is thought that tonight’s incident is the third medivac in as many months from the Marella Explorer II.

GOT THE BUG 19
Nice one VENTNOR.
What does this mean?
Perhaps those poor residents who couldn’t sleep, and whose houses shook from the boats engines could show a little more sympathy now the crew are likely victims of this terrible virus, picking us off one by one.
Hopefully not the virus as they’ve been in quarantine since lockdown haven’t they? I may be wrong but that’s what I understood.
