UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision near Apse Heath this morning (Saturday), which has resulted in the closure of the main Sandown to Newport road in both directions.
Up to 4 vehicles are reported to be involved in the incident, which has taken place outside the House of Chilli near Branstone Cross.
Police were alerted to the crash at around 10:30.
UPDATE @ 11:09 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now on scene and are working with paramedics to free the occupants of at least 1 vehicle by removing its roof.
Atotal of 3 fire appliances from Newport, Sandown and Shanklin are attending.
UPDATE @ 11:29 – A Honda Civic and a VW Passat have sustained significant damage in the smash, but it is the driver of a white Vauxhall Mokka that is being extricated.
The road is expected to remain closed for sometime. In the meantime traffic is being diverted via Watery Lane and Winford.
UPDATE @ 11:58 – 1 casualty has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Emergency services are now debriefing and standing down from the incidents.
The road is expected to re#open following recovery of the 3 vehicles.
